A new poll shows President Donald Trump currently has his highest approval rating of either of his two terms in office.
The survey, which was conducted by NBC News and released on Sunday (March 16), has Trump at a 47% approval rating, though a majority 51% disapprove of his performance. The president is also reported to have a 54% disapproval to 44% approval rating for his performance on the economy and a 55% disapproval to 42% approval rating for his handling of inflation.
Trump had never previously had a majority against his handling of the economy in any poll conducted by NBC News, though many respondents were still optimistic about his long-term plans, with 44% claiming that they believed the U.S. was on the right track, the highest percentage for the question since 2004, despite a majority 54% disagreeing.
Last week, a CNN poll showed that half of Americans believed President Donald Trump's policies had made the economy worse. The survey reported that 51% of respondents believe the country's economic conditions have worsened due to Trump's policies, while 28% said he's improved conditions and 21% said the policies have had no effect.
The poll showed a similar outlook on the current economic conditions as the January survey with an overwhelming majority of 72% claiming conditions were poor in both. Expectations have, however, soured as 49% of respondents said they expect conditions to be good in one year, which was a seven-point decrease from the 56% reported in the January survey.
Additionally, 51% said they expect the economy to be poor in one year, an increase of seven points from the 44% reported in the January survey.
