Jake Owen spoke out about “hatred” he apparently received after telling a story about his Tesla Cybertruck.
“OK. Checking back in with you guys. It’s a new day. I’m already getting hate again today,” Owen said in a clip he shared on his Instagram story on Wednesday (July 23). “I decided to drive the Cybertruck this morning. I’m starting to feel the hatred in this country,” he said while sitting in the vehicle. Owen, who turns 44 next month, added that other commenters have said, “‘why does Jake Owen look like that now?’ I don’t know. It’s what I feel like looking like, OK? I feel good about myself. I feel good about my choice of vehicles.”
The “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” hitmaker shared a video on his social media accounts on Tuesday (July 22), talking about his longtime love of cars. Owen said he drove to Nashville in his 2000 Toyota 4Runner, he bought his most recent Ford F-250 in 2017, and he recently got a Tesla Cybertruck, which he said drives “like a freaking spaceship.”
Owen said he recently drove his Toyota 4Runner to pick up a Starbucks order, and he and another customer shared a conversation “about how awesome Toyota 4Runners are, and it was like a really cool experience with a stranger.”
A few days later, however, Owen had a different encounter.
He drove his Cybertruck to pick up his coffee order, and that’s when another stranger noticed the country star’s vehicle and told him, “f*** you, traitor.” Owen said, “I guess if you wanna get picked on, drive a Cybertruck. If you don’t wanna get picked on, just go back to the 2000 Toyota 4Runner.” See his original clip here (warning: language).
